Why a calcium bolus?
Shortly before or after calving, dairy cows may develop a calcium deficiency in the blood, as their calcium requirement increases rapidly after calving. Calcium is present in the cow in the bloodstream and is also largely fixed in the bones. When the demand for calcium increases, the supply in the blood is initially utilised. If this is not replenished quickly enough by calcium from the bones, the calcium blood level can become too low, which manifests itself in milk fever symptoms such as reduced appetite and activity, cold ears, less functioning skeletal muscles (preventing the cow from standing up) and organ muscles. Providing the Calcium Bolus Gold around calving replenishes the amount of calcium in the animal, reducing the risk of milk fever.

Why choose a bolus based on calcium formate and calcium acetate?
It is important to know that there are different types of calcium available on the market. Some offer an immediate boost to the calcium level, but then very quickly show a drop in calcium level. Calcium formate and calcium acetate, however, proved a more gradual rise, which in addition persists for a longer period of time.
The Calcium Bolus Gold is a gelatine capsule, which dissolves in the rumen soon after administration, so the calcium formate and calcium acetate contents are also released quickly. Because both forms of calcium are easily absorbed, the calcium becomes available to the cow quickly.
The perfect choice for every dairy farmer to supplement calcium in the blood of their cows for an optimal start of lactation.
